Pizitz Middle School Additions & Renovations
Vestavia Hills, AL
Owner: Vestavia Hills City Schools
Size: 16,000 SF Addition
Project Stage: Complete
Project Services: Architecture; Civil, Structural and Mechanical Engineering
Description: Two phase renovation of an existing middle school. Krebs designed a phasing plan for the project that scheduled renovations to the existing facility’s interiors over two summer breaks. Classes remained in session during the school term. A 16,000 square foot addition of a two-story entry and office suite was also completed over the summer. Addition included new and upgraded stairwells to improve access and circulation, and a main corridor that tied together multiple wings of the school. Finishes and restroom facilities were upgraded throughout the school. A new fire alarm system, intercom system, and lighting with controls were installed in all areas. Classroom corridors were upgraded to meet new building codes. The project team (Owner/Architect/Contractor/Building Commission/City) worked together to meet deadlines for opening the school in July for both years the project was under construction.
